Sometimes an author I never read before comes along and delights me! "Mundane Journeys Through An Amazing World" did this for me. Michael Bissell is a very observant traveler. His jobs have taken him all over the world where he has tasted the food and drink of other cultures, and also he has found corners of America to indulge in the familiar. Mostly, Bissell seems comfortable where ever he ends up, even if it takes him awhile to find where he needs to go. He seems delighted by the challenge when a hotel, a town, or a meeting evades an easy path to get there. And he always succeeds. I also learned a lot of interesting history about the places he goes to, for Bissell wants to know about them,too, and shares them with us. I have more than a feeling this author is very intelligent.There are also personal reflections, which could have been out of place, but with his careful ear for what works, nothing in his travels, whether they are from a plane, in an airport, a rented car, a cab, somewhere in the past, or on foot, one of his pleasures for sure, he easily places his reflections and awareness, his views and reactions where they are best put. I admit that I am an armchair traveler. I won't fly. And age has slowed me down for the dazzle of an exciting journey. Mudane Journey is a sure winner for people who give a damn about life, not just their own, but others' lives as well. Nice work!

This is a unique take on a travelogue by an entertaining, thoughtful and observant author. Reading it feels like spending an enjoyable evening with an old friend who can always make you laugh, telling you stories about the places he's been. Michael Bissell is no stranger to writing, as the author of a long-term blog, and a twitter content writer (from "Mad Men" on twitter), and he brings this experience to this, his first full-length book. "Mundane Journeys" left me with a feeling that I understood the world a little better than I had before, but more importantly, it also left me with an urge to go find out more, for myself. I look forward to his next one.
